This page was made to collect information and to inform our neighbours of the proposed 5G Cellular tower currently proposed at 338 Blaxlands Ridge Road Blaxlands Ridge.
We would like the support of all residents because who knows which backyard they will propose next, we are sure that not many people will be thrilled to have one of these in their backyard.
Regardless of the reason you choose, devalued property prices, potential health concerns, impact on our rural views and landscape, we hope the community resonates with at least one of these concerns and supports us in stopping this from going ahead.
Multiple Issues to Consider:
According to research conducted in 2017 by Darshana et. al. ”As we expected, the results clearly show that cell phone towers negatively affect adjacent property values, although in a relatively modest way. The negative impact decreases with the distance to the tower with by far the largest effect occurring within the first 200 m.” "The results show the negative impact... is significant at 20% for properties within 150 m... The negative impact on house prices is, therefore, shown to clearly exist up to 200 m. Based on the results, properties within 200 m are highly affected, and in comparison to similar properties away from 200 m the prices are discounted by 15%." Read the full article
According to the "NSW Telecomunications Facilities guideline, Including broadband"
Principle 1: Design and site telecommunications facilities to minimise visual impact.
Principle 1 (e) states that "A telecommunications facility should be located and designed to respond appropriately to its rural landscape setting."
In no way have they considered the rural landscape of our neighbourhood, they have not even tried to select a site that can hide the tower from public view. The site they have chosen is a greenfield site.
Wireless towers in Australia are regulated by Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) who take guidance from The International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). Evidence shows that the ARPANSA’s radiation standard and the Guidelines of ICNIRP do not protect adequately against the harmful effects of radiofrequency radiation. Several high profile Australian legal firms are currently investigating the potential for legal action concerning exposure to radio frequency radiation with more litigation to follow on this issue.
This proposal is causing great despair to the surrounding property owners, as well as affecting their mental health. Much of the despair is not being given a choice in the matter, after speaking with several neighbours they have all confirmed that if they would have know there would be a wireless tower visible from their house they would have never bought their property.
